Private Practices

During the month of January the San Jose Sharks will designate several practices as private for a special Reading Is Cool day!  This year's RIC Private Practices will be held on Jan. 5, 7, 25, 26 and 27.

Private Practices occur at Sharks Ice at San Jose, the official practice facility of the San Jose Sharks, and typically last 2-3 hours.  The morning begins as classes are welcomed by Reading Is Cool staff and the host for the practice, Jamie Baker, Sharks Radio Color Analyst.  All students will be provided a Hockey 101 handout for use while Jamie covers the basics of hockey, explains how practice works and describes what the student will see.  Just before the players take to the ice, the students will have a question and answer session with 1-2 members of the team and get even further insight into what it is like to be a professional hockey player.  The students will then watch practice for an hour and have the option to stay for lunch and purchase passes to the open Public Skate Sessions.

All 4th-6th grade registered Reading Is Cool classes are eligible for this component and classrooms will be selected at random.  No requests for Private Practices can be taken and because of the nature of the event, K-3rd Grade classes are not eligible.  Typical Private Practices include 8-10 classes from various schools and are limited to 300 students and their chaperones.  Classrooms are expected to provide their own transportation and lunches.
