Sharks Fans Help Break Toys for Tots Record
December 6, 2011

SAN JOSE, Calif. – While the weather may be cold, hearts were warm as many San Jose Sharks fans recently made generous donations to support the Sharks Foundation's annual Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots toy drive.

As the doors to HP Pavilion opened, many fans came prepared with new toys in all shapes and sizes. Several fans even had multiple bags of toys to contribute. Support was also shown through monetary donations dropped into camouflage stockings, which will go directly to Toys for Tots for holiday gifts. Over two game nights, the toy drive collected an astounding 3,500 toys and raised $30,766 in monetary donations.

"This was by far our biggest donation drive ever," said Sergeant Best, the Toys for Tots coordinator.

"It was fantastic to see how many people were willing to make a difference this year," said Sharks Foundation staffer Casey Meyers. "With so many organizations seeking donations during the holiday season, it was great seeing Sharks Fans band together for Toys for Tots. So many children will be able to open gifts this year due to everyone's generosity."

Even though the toy drive has come to an end, it doesn't mean fans still can't help. Continued donations will be accepted throughout the month of December at HP Pavilion, Sharks Ice at San Jose and Sharks Ice at Fremont. These sites will be official donation locations for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves Toys For Tots program.  Sharks fans can assist by dropping off a new and unwrapped toy any time during business hours (for HP Pavilion 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the South Entrance on the corner of Santa Clara and Autumn Streets).  All donations will be distributed to children in Santa Clara County and the surrounding area.  Toys and items for older children (age 13-17) are especially in need.

Thank you to all those Sharks fans who supported this year's Toys For Tots. For more information on the Toys For Tots program, to donate online or to find your local drive coordinator, please visit www.ToysForTots.org

ABOUT TOYS FOR TOTS
The goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy children that will teach them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders. We know from the smiles on children's faces and the appreciation from their parents that the simple gift of a shiny, new toy - something that many take for granted - can make a tremendous difference in the life of a child. Help bring hope to our local children!

ABOUT THE SHARKS FOUNDATION:
The Sharks recognize the value in helping the community and for that reason, we are extremely proud of the work we do through the Sharks Foundation. The Sharks Foundation positively impacts the community in two ways: (1) implements effective programs that enhance the lives of youth and families and (2) raises funds and redistributes the money back into the community. This year alone, our literacy program has helped over 25,000 students learn about the importance of reading.
During the 2010-11 season, the Sharks Foundation granted over $272,000 to 11 non-profit organizations in Santa Clara County, and since its inception, has donated over $5.2 million to more than 100 organizations.

As role models, we are committed to giving back to the community that so strongly supports us. To learn more about the Sharks Foundation's programs and initiatives, visit SharksFoundation.org or become a fan on Facebook.com/SharksFoundation.
