Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood, and each year thousands of patients with leukemia and other life-threatening diseases need a bone marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant in order to survive.  To help chip away at that need, the Sharks Foundation, Stanford Blood Center and Be The Match RegistrySM will team up to host a blood drive and bone marrow registration event on Jan. 23 at HP Pavilion at San Jose.

Any fan who attempts to donate blood or who registers for the Be The Match RegistrySM will have the opportunity to watch the San Jose Sharks and Buffalo Sabres morning skates before that night's game at 7:30. Additionally, they will be entered for a chance to win a Zamboni Ride and four tickets to a future Sharks home game.

Sharks forward Joe Pavelski greets blood donors at the Stanford Blood Center Blood Drive.

About the National Marrow Donor Program
The National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) and our Be The Match FoundationSM are nonprofit organizations dedicated to creating an opportunity for all patients to receive the bone marrow or umbilical cord blood transplant they need, when they need it. Every year, thousands of people of all ages are diagnosed with leukemia and other life-threatening diseases. Many of them will die unless they get a bone marrow or cord blood transplant from a matching donor. Seventy percent of people do not have a donor in their family and depend on our Be The Match RegistrySM to find a match to save their life.  Since 1987, we have arranged for more than 33,000 transplants to give patients a second chance at life. Today, we facilitate more than 4,300 transplants a year.  For more information, please visit www.bethematch.org.

Don't wait to donate. The life you save could be that of someone you know!
