SAN JOSE - The San Jose Sharks announced today that Center Joe Thornton has been selected as the Seagate Sharks Player of the Month for the month of December.  The award will be presented to him prior to tonights game against the New York Islanders.

Thornton led all San Jose scorers and was tied for ninth among all NHL players with 18 points (three goals, 15 assists) in 13 games.  His 15 assists in that span were tied for first among all players and his +11 rating was the fifth-best differential in the NHL, second among forwards.

This is the sixth Seagate Sharks Player of the Month Award for Thornton, his first since Nov. 2007.

Established in the 1996-97 season, the Seagate Sharks Player of the Month program honors the Sharks player(s) who have contributed most to the teams success each month.  Seagate will donate $2,500 on behalf of the player(s) to The Sharks Foundation.  In addition, one player will be selected as the Seagate Sharks Player of the Year at the conclusion of the season and Seagate will donate $5,000 on his behalf to The Sharks Foundation.  Seagate has donated more than $300,000 to The Sharks Foundation since the program's inception.
