SHARKS FOUNDATION "SHARKS PLAYER OF THE YEAR"

SAN JOSE — The San prior to tonight's game against the Phoenix Coyotes at HP Pavilion at San Jose.

"He's done exactly what everyone wanted him to, from day one right on through," Defenseman Rob Blake said. "Marleau's been playing at an elite level these past few years so to a lot of the guys in this lockerroom it's not a surprise."

Entering play tonight, Marleau sits second on the team and 12th among all NHL scorers with 82 points (43 goals, 39 assists), a career high, along with a plus-21 rating (T-19th NHL). His 43 goals (fourth overall in the NHL) are also a career-high and the third-most goals scored in a single-season in Sharks franchise history. He is also tied for tenth in the NHL in game-winning goals (6), tied-for-second in short-handed goals (4) and tied-for-fifth in short-handed points (four).

This season, Marleau appeared in his 900th NHL game (Dec. 1 vs. Ottawa), scored his 300th (and 301st) NHL goals (Dec. 26 vs. Anaheim) and won a Gold Medal as a member of Team Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

He tied his career-high with a nine-game point streak (6 goals, 10 assists) from Oct. 17-Nov. 4 and posted his third career hat trick on Nov. 27 at Edmonton.

JASON DEMERS VOTED PLAYSTATION®
"SHARKS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR"

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Sharks announced today that defenseman Jason Demers has been selected as this year's PlayStation® "Sharks Rookie of the Year" in voting among a panel of Bay Area media. Demers will be recognized in a video presentation during tonight's game against the Phoenix Coyotes at HP Pavilion at San Jose. On behalf of the winner, Sony Computer Entertainment America will present a check for $2,500 to the Sharks Foundation and Demers will receive a PlayStation®3 (PS3™) system with a VIP pack of games.

"We've been partnering with the Sharks for more than ten years and we're thrilled by the opportunity to support local youth and other local community activities through the Sharks Foundation," said Ginger Kraus, Senior Director of Promotions for Sony Computer Entertainment America, LLC. "We're always looking for creative ways to interact directly with our consumers and to extend the PlayStation experience, and we couldn't be more pleased with the great relationship we've built with the Sharks' team and community."

Demers, 21, has played in 50 games this season, posting 21 points (4 goals, 17 assists) along with 21 penalty minutes. His 21 points place him fifth amongst rookie defensemen, fourth in assists, while his plus/minus rating of +6 is 10th.

"It's nice to be considered for this award," Demers said. "We had a lot of rookies up this year and it's a proud feeling for me to be awarded with this."

He made his NHL debut on opening night Oct. 1 at Colorado. The defenseman scored his first career goal on Nov. 15 at Chicago and tied (Dan Boyle and Doug Wilson) a franchise record for power play goals in a game by a defenseman with two vs. Minnesota on Jan. 30.

"He went back and forth between Worcester and San Jose and it's hard to do as a rookie," former Rookie of the Year d-man Marc-Edouard Vlasic said. "I think he's done a great job here."

Demers also appeared in 25 games for the Worcester Sharks (AHL), registering 17 points (4 goals, 13 assists) and a plus/minus rating of +7.

"Demers play a lot of powerplay and it's because the coaches have a lot of confidences in him," said Vlasic. "Like any rookie, it took him a few games to get use to the speed up here, but he has done well. He's holding onto the puck, making plays and isn't afraid to make mistakes."

The six-foot-one, 195-pound defenseman from Dorval, Quebec was originally selected by the Sharks in the seventh round (186th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

EVGENI NABOKOV NAMED AS WINNER OF
2009-10 PLAYSTATION® THREE STARS OF THE GAME AWARD

SAN JOSE — The San Jose Sharks announced today that goaltender Evgeni Nabokov is the winner of the 2009-10 PlayStation® Three Stars of the Game award. Nabokov will be honored with an award from PlayStation, in a presentation that will follow tonight's game against the Phoenix Coyotes at HP Pavilion at San Jose. On behalf of the winner, Sony Computer Entertainment America will present a check for $2,500 to the Sharks Foundation and Nabokov will receive a PlayStation®3 (PS3™) system with a VIP pack of games.

Entering play tonight, Nabokov is tied for the NHL lead in wins (43), 10th in goals-against average (2.44) and seventh in the league in save percentage (.921), along with three shutouts this season.

"We've been partnering with the Sharks for more than ten years and we're thrilled by the opportunity to support local youth and other local community activities through the Sharks Foundation," said Ginger Kraus, Senior Director of Promotions for Sony Computer Entertainment America, LLC. ""We're always looking for creative ways to interact directly with our consumers and to extend the PlayStation experience, and we couldn't be more pleased with the great relationship we've built with the Sharks' team and community."

This season, Nabokov became just the second goaltender in NHL history to record three consecutive 40-win seasons (Martin Brodeur). On March 25, 2010 at Dallas, Nabokov recorded his 50th career shutout, moving him into a tie for third all-time on the active goaltenders list. "Nabby" recorded his 250th career win on Oct. 3, 2009 and played in his 500th NHL game on Oct. 17, 2009. His 292 wins place him 27th on the NHL's all-time wins list and his 562 games in net are 45th all-time.

No NHL goaltender has more wins (130) or a higher winning percentage (.622) over the last three seasons than Nabokov.

Nabokov was named the NHL's Third Star of the Week ending Nov. 1, 2009 when he went 3-0-0 with a 0.97 goals-against average and a .963 save percentage. On Feb. 11, 2010 at Detroit, he set an NHL record with his 11th consecutive road victory. Nabokov also posted a 2-1 record with Russia at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

At the end of each 2009-10 regular season game, players received five points for being chosen first star, three points for second star and one point for third star as listed on the official NHL game sheet distributed by the game's official scorekeepers. Each star is chosen by members of the media based on the player's performance each game.
